I was surprised to learn something today about the number “143″. At first, I thought that 143 is the sum of three consecutive primes (43 + 47 + 53), as well as the sum of seven consecutive primes (11 + 13 + 17 + 19 + 23 + 29 + 31). Apparently, in our text-message inundated lives, 143 has taken on new meaning.
If you haven’t seen this commercial, you must not own a TV. It’s on all the time. Coming from the wireless industry, it entertains me. It shows a mom trying to keep up with her younger daughters text messaging abbreviations until she finally loses it and has a moment of realization that she sounds like an idiot talking the way people text.
Text messaging is here to stay and this can be used as a lesson to let all of us know that we at least need to understand this, if not use it. This is where “143″ comes into play. It apparently means “I love you”. I didn’t get it for some time and had to do some digging. Basically 1= 1 letter (“I”), 4= 4 letters (“love”) and 3= 3 letters (“you”). Granted, I think this is pretty lame, but it is incredibly popular. In fact, it’s the number 5 (at the time of this post) most frequently searched for term on Google today.
Speaking of Google and text messages, if you haven’t checked out the Google SMS service before now, it is an excellent tool. You can get movie listings, weather information, math problems solved and of course business phone numbers. If you don’t have a text plan, it may cost you as much as $0.60 to use depending on your search, but that is far less than the $1.50+ most companies are charging for directory assistance these days. If you have a text plan, it’s included in that.
