NAR Expo: Day 1

by Nick Bostic on November 13, 2007

So last night ended up reasonably well, after eating and tipping, I ended my gambling experience up 600%!!! Now, for those of you that know me, I’m fairly good at working with numbers and percentages almost always irritate me. First, I used a common mistake and didn’t subtract my initial investment. If I were to take that into account, I still made a whopping 500%!!! But I only started with $5. I am not a good gambler and I hate losing money, but I have a surefire way to play for hours and statistically you’ll end up on top.

Anyway, Las Vegas Blvd is currently under construction most of the way between my hotel and the Expo center, so it took me an hour (literally) to drive the one single mile. I missed the first class I had hoped to attend about the HP Compaq 2710p Tablet PC. I am specifically interested because my 15″ widescreen Dell is ripping my arm out of its socket.

I am currently in a FSBO (For Sale By Owner) class. So far so good, although the speaker wasn’t too happy with NAR for not printing his handouts he provided them back in September. Be prepared for a plethora of marketing ideas for FSBO’s before the end of the year.

Depending on the lines at the Technology Learning Center, I will either attend a class about Windows Vista, Microsoft FrontPage or Advanced Outlook. Most people consider me to be something of an Outlook pro as it is, but I’m always open to learning something new. I’m also a web design snob and FrontPage was a joke. I’m hoping they mean the new Microsoft Expression Web, although it is only slightly better than FrontPage. No offense to anyone I know in the industry, but I have only met a couple of people who think they can and should design their web site on their own, and I doubt they use a Microsoft product to put it together. That’s why I’m a bit intrigued by the class. Regarding Vista, my home desktop barely meets the requirements, so I haven’t upgraded and my laptop is provided by work and it’s not corporate approved yet. So what I know about Vista only comes from helping people with they many problems they have with it.

If there’s a product or service you are interested in me investigating for you, let me know in the comments below and I’ll do what I can to get to as many seminars as possible.
