I am currently moblogging (mobile blogging) sitting in front of a video roulette machine in New York, NY. I’m tired, I’m sore and I am looking forward to being home, despite the weather.
I attended three great classes today. First was RETS, APIs and Mashups. No, I didn’t just have a seizure. This is the new real estate technology that will greatly improve your property search tools (unless RMLS does something fishy). It allows you to combine your property search results with great maps from Yahoo, Google or MSN along with local search information. It’s not something most of you will want to tackle due to the complexity of the programming, but it’s actually relatively easy programming for people who know some basic programming languages.
Next was a class about the Palm OS. I couldn’t count how many problems and device feezes took place in that room. Please, do not buy another Treo, at least for a year or so until they make some serious updates. Go with BlackBerry (preferably) or Windows mobile, but not on a Treo. I’m going to put together a BlackBerry training class, so don’t be afraid.
Finally, I had the opportunity to learn about the HP Real Estate Marketing Assistant software. Wow. For $100, this can manage all of your print marketing so easily. From flyers and postcards to team resumes and listing presentations, this software does it all.
I scoured the expo hall floor again for real estate technology, but continued to be unimpressed. I’ll be at Inman Connect in January, where I’m sure they’ll focus more on the technology side.
So, to recap: the classes were great, the floor not so much.
When I have time to more fully look through all the junk I picked up, I’ll give my final report.
Wish me luck, in roulette and at the airport.
