The Great Firefox Challenge: End of November Numbers

by Nick Bostic on December 3, 2007

Okay crusaders, we made some very slight headway. As of month end, Firefox had barely crept up, but Internet Explorer took a larger hit. The margin has moved from 13.6% down to 10.3%. Not bad at all.

Now for even better news. Month to date (yes, both days) Firefox is sitting at number one with 61.1%!!! Opera is number two with 18.4% and IE is number three at a measly 10.9%. I’m hoping to keep most of this momentum.

One of my close friends asked me, “Why do you care?”. There’s plenty of reasons, but one of my biggest ones comes from my web development days. This article is a wee bit technical for most people I know, but basically it lets people know that Internet Explorer makes life very difficult for a profession that is already difficult. Between keeping up with coding standards changes and customers that don’t always know what can and can’t be done, having to deal with Microsoft NOT following established guidelines for web rendering is simply rude.

As I stated in my previous post, I also like the endless plugins that I can use to make it my browser. It renders pages faster, is easier/more intuitive to use and totally customized for me.
