Facebook – Registration

by Nick Bostic on December 19, 2007

Some of you may have heard of Facebook, others maybe not. Before I write my next sentence, let me say this: I loathe MySpace. Parents shouldn’t let their children on there and adults should know better. Don’t believe me? Check out PC World’s #1 Worst Web Site for some very valid reasons as to why I’m right.

So for those of you who don’t know what Facebook is but know what MySpace is, Facebook is MySpace for adults/professionals. It is a social networking platform that lets you keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues. Now, it’s not as professional as LinkedIn, a friend just SuperPoked me with candy corn. I’m not sure exactly what that means. So do like I do, and ignore the parts that seem stupid to you. If Microsoft valued them at $15 Billion (yes, with a “B”), they must be worth checking out at least.

For me, my friends know how to get in touch with me, so that aspect isn’t what is most important to me (although it is where I get to see pictures from a friend who is sailing around the world). The part that interests me the most are Facebook Flyers. Flyers allow you to create very highly targeted ads. You can target based on:

  • Geographic Location
  • Sex
  • Age
  • Interests (these are interests that the individuals specify – they want to hear from you!)
  • Political Views
  • Relationship status
  • Level of Education
  • Place of employment

I recommend Flyers Pro because you are only paying for actual clicks you receive. You specify a maximum amount per click and a daily budget. You can also specify when the ads will run.

Here’s a link to a video tutorial showing how to register on Facebook. I’ll get one up showing how to create a Flyer campaign when I get back from my vacation.
