Will green merchandise win the points?

Green products and their marketing appears as one answer to an escalating world population, increasing global resource constraints, and the urgent need to decarbonize our way of life.

With the warning signs abounding if we fail in this task, then we will, at some time in the near future, “hit the wall” . Like it or not, this green products wagon is accelerating. If you’re an early adopted of green you’ll benefit in the long run.

In the face of the financial meltdown of world markets, green products are  just as important to consumers. But they are taking a backseat whilst economizing. Nevertheless, if you have green products that are priced well against conventional products, there is nothing to stop you outselling everything else.

There’s nothing complicated about going green

Whether a product is green is the result of either product or process attributes that are good for the planet. Where the process of making the item itself may have been re-designed to have lower environmental impacts than with earlier processes, or in comparison with competing merchandise, this is a process related improvement. When we look at product attributes, they are usually detailed using phrases like chlorine free, dioxin free, no chemicals added, made from sustainably harvest timbers, and so on just to give a few of the thousands of statements that can be made.

When going to market, only ever tell the truth. For example, if you green print, then what allows you to say that? Do you use green electricity, Forest Stewardship paper, recycle water and many other materials, have on going program for improvement, etcetera?

Green products are environmentally friendly products. Today, green products are the result of thoughtful processes, they are green because they are created using sustainable design principle. If you are green marketing, get those environmental facts in place – be aware, this is a time consuming task, then and only then should you engage in green marketing.

And remember why we are doing this; because these environmentally responsible products are more kind for the environment and a wiser choice for your welfare…and it will give as a better chance to avoid “hitting the wall”.
