If you are in the market for a new camera that is excellent for real estate (and all other) photography without breaking the bank, I recommend the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 series.  It has a very wide angle lens, will allow you to easily take HDR photos, is nice and compact and won’t break the bank.  If you are able to wait about a month, the newer version, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48 will be out soon, but is available for pre-order now.

Also, if you are interested in using HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography, the best software available is Photomatix Pro.
